POSTCARD DESK.

Bangladesh has received international recognition for setting up 200 eco-friendly factories. And because of this recognition, the export oriented garment industry has achieved a new milestone.

Sources from BGMEA, an association of export-oriented garment industry factory owners, said that two new factories have recently obtained environment-friendly certificates. As a result, the milestone of two centuries has been achieved in setting up environment-friendly factories. The two new factories that have received the eco-friendly certificate are Lida Textile and Dyeing and Lease Fashion Industry Limited of Gazipur. BGMEA president Farooq Hasan said in a statement, "This is an important milestone for us on the path of sustainable industrialization."

It is known that after the collapse of Rana Plaza in 2013, the entrepreneurs of the country's ready-made clothing industry have focused on ensuring a safe working environment in factories. They became interested in building environment-friendly factories. As a result, Bangladesh now has the highest number of eco-friendly factories among the countries that export ready-made garments in the world.

In 2012, the first eco-friendly factory started its journey in Bangladesh with the help of clothing industry entrepreneur Sajjadur Rahman Mridha. He set up Vintage Denim Studio at Ishwardi EP Z in Pabna. Along the path shown by him, more than two hundred environment-friendly factories have been built in the country. Apart from the ready-made garments and textile sector, shipyards, footwear and electronic sectors also now have eco-friendly factories. Commercial buildings are also eco-friendly.

Several organizations around the world provide certification for environmentally friendly establishments. One of them is the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

They give certification to environmentally friendly installations called 'LEAD' . Full version of LEAD Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

To receive this certification, a project must meet the highest standards from construction to production under the supervision of the USGBC. For that, the application can be made by constructing a new building or renovating an old building. There are a total of 110 points in the 9 conditions for the LEAD certificate.

If the points are above 80, 'Lead Platinum', 60-79 'Lead Gold', '50-59' 'Lead Silver' and 40-49 'Lead Certified' certificate. Most of the environmentally friendly facilities in Bangladesh are USGBC. got the certificate.

According to BGMEA data, out of 200 garment and textile factories in Bangladesh that have received LEAD certificate, 73 have received LEAD Platinum, 113 Gold, 10 Silver and 4 certified certificates.

Green Textile Limited of Sher Mymensingh in Bangladesh is now the world's most eco-friendly factory by getting the highest number in the LEAD certificate. They got 104 out of 110 marks. Not only them, 8 of the top 10 environmentally friendly factories in the world are from Bangladesh.

They are Remy Holdings, Fatulla Apparels, Lida Textiles and Dyeing, Leez Fashion Industries, Tarasima Apparels, Plummy Fashions and Silken Swing.
